Just done that one ... the crossers I had suggested AUBERGISTE ...an innkeeper....so IDLE will be extra

I think C(aught) and almost every time (meaning three out of 4) leave.
I can only parse it after the answer.

Struggling with this one.
Is 1A an anagram of the third and fourth words. I am not sure Obscure describes the meaning of the anagram.

I have do not yet have any down answers to verify that 1a is correct.

I have unfocussed...anagram of confused us ...danger is extra I think...

My 4d was wrong.
I now have 2d,5d,6d,7d and 8d.
3d is a 3 letter answer. I have first and third letter but no idea how to read the clue.
Because of 13d, I now have 22a and 32a.

More work needed.

Unfortunately I will be gone for a few hours.
But any hint on 40a, 36a, and 27d is welcome.

Sunray, 40a is anag of seen near with a c and another c set in.
27d is anag of ponces.

For 40, I was trying to anagram seen near plus ch for chapter.

for 27d, I thought a (taking a) has to be involved.

Similarly for 3d Old boys' bar often emptied out, leaving ground one at a time (3) . Crossers possibly suggest FEN ??
