Thanks, tomsdad. Got it now. I had 'fley' (Sc.) to frighten.

I have the grid done and changed the word.

But cannot find the phrase. I can see 3,2 but not the 7. Any hint?

Also not sure how to create a maze-like grid.

Hints appreciated.

Treat bars and extra letters as "walls" in the maze. Follow odd letters as in your 3, 2 round to the start of the name. The seven letter word is an old word starting with f and ending in r.

Hint, 3,2,7 is the choice that was given to the quarry.

The 7 letter word starting at F:

First three letters go at an angle.
The next three go in a straight line.
And then the R.
