It was odd that the OP also showed a capital S but it appears to be a typo or print error, otherwise there would be no definition.

I can't see anything amiss with the capital "S" in "Settle"?
Settle was a mining village in North Yorkshire.

Nowt wrong with the Yorkshire Dales village having a capital S. Not so sure the icryptic would use it in a clue though :-)

I stand corrected as, apparently, the word Settle (with capital S) was shown in the clue. I tried to post a link but it was not allowed

PS It seems Settle had no mine as it was known for its cotton mills. The setter was using that as a ruse to mislead I think. Capitals generally best ignored in cryptic clues
