Final letter of the first intersects with fourth letter of the second.
I'm stumped, any ideas out there?

Rossim, that's what I originally thought - Pay No Heed -but the second letter was/is definitely an 'i'.

There have been several errors lately and I haven't got that crossword.

Agreed, Rossim! As it's Private Eye, I wasn't expecting the clean-cut Screw = Pay. The rest of the answer worked fine - Not A/No and Care/Mind.

Rossim & Malone, that got you going for a while! Well done, that solves it. I should have got "readies" and already had "pay no mind" though unconvinced by it but you've convinced me. I've never seen "screw" as synonym for "pay" before and, as you say, "screw" in PE usually carries different connotations.
