Sunray, making 28d plural does not tie in with the theme. When you have finished you should have 5 empty squares on the bottom row and you need to look for a thematic way to fill them. (think of a 9 letter word that means 'bug' and look at the finished grid)

sunray ... for the bottom missing letters "i looked up and let the letters DROP"

Subsea : How to parse it?
That gives me 1d as Sasha. Is that correct? How do you parse it?

OK, I can see the first 5 letters of the "bug" to be inserted in the last row. What CIA does for a living.

When I look at Row 1, I see what happens in the grid. That is clever.

The one outstanding bug(!) is the parsing of subsea at 1a. Has anyone worked it out yet?

Nearest I can get is laid-back bus (sub) with laid -back Glaswegain for goes (gaes) with g (Gateshead) leaving = sea. Not sure why the Listener bit is in there.
