Hmm, still not sure about both answers. The I came from this clue, which may be incorrect:

I put EVICTED which gave the I for the Man of ear clue.
Any thoughts?

I'd have thought evicted was correct, but perhaps it's EJECTED, in which case the other could be ARES

(Or B?E? If evicted is wrong and it's ejected...)
