Late to the party. Fun puzzle.
Graph paper always helps for these substitutions. I have a little spreadsheet from previous ones.

Never heard of both words either.
3D is in the New Oxford American Dictionary as early 20th century US slang, & in Chambers.
36A is not in any of mine but apparently in Merriam-Webster. Easily inferable though, with "Blasted" (7) & anagrind "apart".
However, "Queen" doesn't seems to be a bed size in the UK according to Wiki.
