The answer to 20 D - Layers in places drilled by man (6)

_ H _ E _ S looks like it is SHEETS. Could someone parse it for
me? HE within (badgers') SETS?

sheets = layers (def)
sets- places
he- man

Well, no!
It isn't parsed at all like you suggested!
Badgers have nothing at all to do with it!
And they live in SeTTs anyway! (spelt differently)
In this instance, "sets" means "places".
