Ok, I've finished this and very clever it was too with the missing two words turning into the location if read the other way. BUT, both come to seven letters, not ten. What am I missing?

10 clues are affected - but some of the answers cross! One example - 33 D and 40 Across. Two clues, one thematic letter.

some of the 7 letters are common to more than one clue like the E which is missing from wordplay of 15d and 24a.Similarly the L in the top right corner and the D in the bottom r corner

Thanks folks, had spotted the 33/40 one and just thought "neat", didn't add it on. So 15/24 and 7/10. Got it now. A good one I thought, even if my knowledge of the subject is close to nil.

I've completed this but can't parse 23A.
More cunning character having laugh, but not five times (7).
Answer (I think) leerier.
Any help much appreciated.
