I can't get 16d. I know it's a special entry and what is going to be involved and I have ?E?ER?TE.

Almost full grid with theme worked out and extra letters... but stuck on 42a Being shut up, men suffering with infection (7) My grid letters are
?ON?ENT but not much use as I don't know which synonym to use here. Extra letter possibly "i" ?

Also stuck with what to remove?

Tomsdad mentioned not being completely happy with 'the entity' - despite having a completed grid, with the thematic changes, I've been unable to see anything to remove!

Malone, did you get the additional letters ? They describe the "entity", the third of a triumvirate.

I got most of the letters, enough to see the theme- and enough to change the 8 entries. I was late starting this and haven't done any proper grid-staring yet. I'll get on with that now. Maybe I was expecting something more dramatic!
