I'm stuck on a couple and think perhaps I have a letter wrong somewhere?

6d Runs after deliveries, every one's cause of strain? (9)

I have O?T?R?A??

19a Aide's back to cover delay by ambassador? That's a load of rubbish (8)

I have S?A???A?

The final letter of 6d is also the 5th letter of 19a.

I have possible answers for both but neither fit with the common letter!

Many thanks for your assistance, I had slagheap but was unable to fit it with a suitable answer for 6d. I now know the T is wrong, so will now look for a suitable remedy.

Once again grateful thanks!

Crossword completed but I'd be grateful for an explanation on the wordplay of:

8d Forty past what sounds like a line on the ground (6,2)

T?E?T? T?

It must be 'TWENTY TO' which relates to 'Forty past' but I'm unable to parse remainder of clue, and would be grateful for explanation.

Of course, and many thanks, but how could I have missed that as rugby is my game! Hangs head in shame.
