I've seen this thread for a few hours, but been unable to reply. I'm not sure that there's a problem. The tune has no notes, because it's 4.5 mins of silence, so you erase nothing - don't you? Or maybe you can hear something I can't ? Seasons Greetings (sun is 3 days higher now).

Too much Vigilia vodka. Completely counter to my previous post : you erase everything, since the instruction is 'Erase everything but the notes in Page's piece. So, since there are no notes in Page's piece, you erase everything. There are 40 entries, the preamble advises to apply the instruction to all entries, so I don't understand the questions on this...

OK meursault, but you are overlooking the interpretation of "notes in Cage's piece" as being the musical notes literally in the words Cage's piece - in other words C, A, G and E. Or (my third, and preferred possibility) the musical notes literally in the words Four minutes thirty three seconds (I guess we've all got here by now) - in other words F, E, C and D. These at least have the merit of being consecutive. I am not saying which of these is correct, merely that there is clearly doubt as to the interpretation of the instruction. Despite my preference for the FECD version I shall submit a blank grid (if I can be bothered to submit at all).

To submit a completely blank grid would give no indication that you had any clues correctly solved ! Contributors to this forum know that we can get help with individual.clues and with end game procedures but we also know that one way or another the completed grid will have to demonstrate that we have got the answer to every clue. I favour having to leave in notes such as A, G and E but the problem then is the clue that results in the alternative to Marmite since it only jas the note B. All other entries could be amended I think. If the end result has to be a blank grid I think I will.stip believing in Father Christmas. Best wishes to all for 2017.

It might help in deciding what to submit (if you intend to submit) to consider the actual title of the work according to its originator, the entry for the very first clue given, and Listener 4328, not to mention the whole basis of the work.
I would imagine that the Listener team work on the basis that people do the puzzle as a challenge and for enjoyment as much as to win a prize which most probably already possess. They would prefer that forums such as this did not exist, so that if you are going to make a submission, to be correct, and have a chance of winning, you will have solved the clues and got the messages.

Thanks gem94. I accept that blank entries have been accepted before. As Listener Thanks. As Listener said at the time about 4328 it was set to give "an easier week for marking" and as " an attempt to produce a Listener with no incorrect entries - the attempt was unsuccessful". I also accept that they probably do not like this forum. Nevertheless it does exist and that might be recognized. I only do it to get satisfaction from answering the clues and I still feel that one should show that you have answered them rather more clearly than by deletion.

I suspect there are many - like myself - who have never submitted a solution and probably never will. The satisfaction comes from solving and that means we sometimes need a helping hand. I would have given up on the Listener crossword a long ago if not for this forum - of which I was a silent observer for a long time. It's suggestions, ideas and debates have kept me interested and amused. Long may the Listener crossword continue - and long may this forum continue too!

No one answered dylan's Q about the 10 letter answer.
(Amaryllid: Is it Belladonna?)
I have the same problem.
Any help appreciated.

Not Belladonna, no. Think of a word (prefix) denoting blood. Archibald initially (A) worn by supposedly virile fellow .... so?
