19ac Catch in complicated test we love (10)
I felt quite clever when I "solved" this one: "complicated", I thought, must indicate anagram of "test we love"; and sure enough, it turns out there's a song (catch) called TWELVETOES.
Perfectly legitimate solution? I thought so...
But some of the letters couldn't be right as other solutions fell in, and the correct solution emerged, from another syntax altogether. Amazing!

I was also wrong footed at first, thinking that catch was the definition

Funnily enough, I also went down your path initially ....coming up with "Twelvetoes" especially as it was an appropriate anagram!
but as you say, it did all fit when isolated!
