rrRobbo, I've come back to query another comment. You said that 19D had a 2 in the middle. I didn't take too much notice of that for my solve, which seemed to progress increasingly rapidly. But my 19D does not have central digit 2 (mine is 6). Everything in my grid tallies, and I can make a meaningful word, starting in the NW cell, from the central cells.

I have laboured through but can see nothing in the centre - is it just the central 4 cells? TTU?

Sorry rrrobbo, didn't see the earlier posts about 5d. Once I did, it all made sense. I agree with what you wrote, I was a bit premature.

Yes, and you can check there's no viable alternative answer by using cruciverbalist's online solver :-)

I haven't yet double-checked all my answers but like Meursault I don't have 2 as the central digit of 19d.

Could someone confirm that the starting point for the final bit is the NW cell of the four central cells. I have a word that seems thematic and I don't want to waste time going through all the other possibilities for the other viable number that starts in the NE cell and has many possibilities.

I'm still struggling to get going on this and have reached an impasse. If N=19 3 across must be 361 so 3 down starts with a 3 making J= 18. But 6 down states that C>J, not possible if C=14. Help!

Escuan - have a good look at the clue again, and I suspect you'll want to kick yourself, in the nicest possible way, of course.
