i'm stuck on the top right corner :- 8A "Spades fit into rock" **AL*. & 4D "Once you make 500" ***U ? . Further clues appreciated.

S for spades + 4 letter word for fit/healthy

old word for "you" .... with another 4 letters it would be 2 x 500

6d a word I've never heard of in the RT!
A drunken pal going round Margate endlessly with light shoe (9)

18a are the last 4 letters clued?
Lack of energy having no roll? (12)

Yes, devonian - 5d, not 6d!

I was stuck too with top R corner but thanksto your posts have now finished. I had never heard of 6D either - another name for an espadrille. Chrise I wondered about last 4 letters of 18A being clued as well. By the way thanks for hint last week about 'untidy dresser'. A good hint about being outstanding in his field!!
