I've completed this crossword but can't fully justify one answer:

9a Extend tramp's area of land (8) ?R?T?A?T

I'm sure it must be PROTRACT (Extend), with 'tract' being the 'area of land' but I'm hitting a blind spot with remainder of the clue, and would be grateful for any clarification.

Is Neil Walker the setter ?

My answer was based on tramps, prostitutes - maybe wildly wrong!
