Stuck on 2d (5) 'Account mostly about a special man'. I've got ??s?l

Also, 1a (4) 'Scoff at ebbing of substantial energy'. g??? I was thinking 'gawk' but if that's the case, then 2d (see above) starts with a 'w'.
