1down. Clue is "Indications of approval reversed
which could have been moot". I have S?S?Y.

The answer must be SESEY but I have searched all my own reference books and Google for ages but I cannot find Sesey=moot (presumably in the sense of an Anglo-Saxon court).

Has anybody else got the same answer and, if so, how have you verified it. It is most frustrating! It is rare that something cannot be found on Google.

http://www.thefreedictionary.com/sesey

Seems to mean "cease"or "stop", which could mean that the question is moot?

Clutching at straws here!

andyc - I saw that link on Answerbank but it does not work. The person who placed it there withdrew it soon afterwards because it was an error.

chrise - I have seen the definition as "cease" in Chambers and elsewhere but it still does not tie up with the clue.

Any further thoughts - anyone?

Chambers defines 'sesey' as an interjection perhaps, meaning 'enough said'. One meaning of Moot ( in Collins, for example) is 'having no practical relevance' .
Enough said/moot/having no practical relevance works fine for me -so Sesey seems ok.
