start off? Not very cryptic though.

This fits with crossing clue for a dessert

AFTERS

Dessert tea-filled wafers no topping (6) AFTERS

It must be right then but I still can't see the cryptic bit.

The clues in this crossword are not brilliant, rossim :)

I wondered about "crash out" but it does not appear to fit with crossing letters.

The second word has to be "off" to fit with "afters" . I tried to post a link to the crossword, but it was not allowed for some reason

I don't have the crossword ..but how about drift off ?

chrisg. That sounds good, but the crossing clue to giveyou a 'd' in drift, would have to fit with:
