Hopefully I have solved all the clued lights except for-
17d People arranging things for Russia's leader beset
by problems (6) ?i???s

I can then try to figure out the two linguistic kinds as per
the preamble.

From my placed letters it appears that 24a can only be
Saxonite. How does this fit with the preamble?

Have I gone wrong somewhere?
Thanks
R

No, you haven't gone wrong. 24 A works in exactly the same way as all the other unclued Across answers.

Hi again rosie, you're spot on. All answers are "regular" English words but can be anagrammed to fit the preamble and title (both continental).
