When I get to the end of the crossword do I have to replace a word in the grid with another one so making some non-words?

Mine were all real words.

I have completed this and shaded in but I cannot parse 5d. I have the answer but can't see what the clue wordplay is about. Is the misprint of for ox? If so why so many words in the clue?
