After tremendous trouble I have finished Azed 2,291. I thought it was very tough.

It is a Printer's devilry puzzle.

For 18A I have the answer GERAH.

The devilled clue is:
Rumours of business malpractice make me read 'Likely to fail' (5)

What is the undevilled version?

'Rumours of business malpractice make merger ahead likely to fail', ie the split is at r/ead.

Now you just have to submit your own clue for the zoroastrian scriptures .............that took me nearly as long as the puzzle!
