I'd like a bit of help with the parsing of 14ac -

' Dipstick in part of sump initially (3) '

I have 'A _ S ' , so assume the answer is 'ASS' , taking the meaning of dipstick to be a fool ie an ass.

I can see the last S of ASS is 'sump initially' , but I do not see how the first AS has the meaning ' in part of '......

Otherwise I am OK with the rest of the clues accepting that Dean Mayer uses language in a different way !

yes "as" can mean in part of ..... theatrical casting ...eg "she acted well as cleopatra /in the part of cleo...
