OK. I have seen "elsewhere" that you need to know this is daytime: I didn't expect that!

Not a nuisance at all, xfan, though it's better to give the clue.

This is one of the dodgy ones I referred to earlier. I think the original word ends in E; this is then removed and another letter substituted. T seems the obvious letter for "time", but then I can't see any definition, so I've gone for D (day?) - even then the definition is very loose. Not a good clue.

Just peeking in and xfan has mentioned 1a

Hi jazzy - nice to see you about. If you look back through the threads, someone was asking where you were a few days ago.

The clue in question is 7a, of course. Have you ever seen an RT crossword with complete solutions on the edges of the grid? I think it must be policy not to use grids like that.

hi Chris
Of course, 7a. I went for D at the end.
I know years back, in the days of Old Gal, Wee Jock, Pipesmoker et al, etc. there used to be someone who showed a completed grid buthe/she was not to be relied upon as they made a lot of errors. I don't kno w if he/she is still doing so. I do hope not. It does happen with other crosswords on fifteensquared etc.
I did spot Andy's query re my whereabouts. I caught up with him later and congratulated him on his win. He deserved it, after all the help he gives others. Excuse the delay. I have a new laptop and cannot get used to the chiclet keys. They are awful

What on earth are "chiclet keys", jazzy?

I did not know what chiclet keys were until until recently. The keys are very flat (like a chiclet - American chewing gum or something) and I find them hard to get used to . I am used to a normal keyboard with raised keys as I am a touch typist

Any hint on 8a would be appreciated. I have every other letter and just cannot see it

"rowers' second chance" is the definition. It's a word I've only heard when watching Olympic rowing.

Partial anagram.

(just had a bite to eat) Thanks for your thoughts one and all. Yup, 7a of course, and thanks for knowing what I meant despite the error. Perhaps its a typo and should have been "dime"? Just as good! Ha,ha,ha! I think the clue is so flawed I'm just going to leave it blank! Ditto 24a. Thanks "again": 'till next time!
