Surprised to find no entries? I found the most difficult part was working out what some of the answers were before they became items (e.g. 11 down). It was nice to get away from 4391 and it's boring wordsearch.

Hello! I'm new here and haven't posted before, I usually just read. But this week there's nothing to read, so I'm just saying hi. Maybe everyone else just found this week too easy. :/

Just indifference, I think, BeginnerSolver. In puzzle 4388 we had an equally banal theme (though perhaps more amusing for its sheer absurdity), but that puzzle was a great success due to its sophisticated construction.

Just a question (I express no view) : considering his controversial associations with young girls, is it appropriate for the author of the theme to be show-cased ? If the answer is 'yes', then a theme such as J.D. Salinger might have been infinitely more interesting...

Easy? You guys crack me up. Maybe it's just the way my brain is geared but last weeks was a walk in the park compared to this. I have maybe 10 percent! Please humour me by telling me 4 down as I think I only need the last letter but nothing goes well with what i have, even with maybe changing the first letter.

LIMA. The second letter is a clash.

Ah. That is sort of easy I guess if you know what relation to seed Lima is and you don't assume that two clashes in 12 across already is enough! Up to about 50 percent before knocking red wine all over it. Dried now and has an interesting sheen. As does the carpet. Many thanks.
