Well done ginge, thanks for hosting peterm.

Nice one ginge and cheers peter.

"ken" is a den of thieves here in geordieland, probably a "suana" in glasgow.

Congratulations, Ginge and thanks to Peterm.
Oh dear, so far I can only see the "chic" part.

Did you never come across "Slinky springs", mattrom? Great toy - you had a disadvantaged youth!

The "trademark slinky" is one of those elongated spring toys that goes down a flight of stairs, which went (still goes?) by the name of Slinky. The "high class brothel" is chic ken. (I'll be a bit embarrassed if that's not what ginge intended!)

Thanks BBM and peterm. I'm not entirely upset that ken = brothel eluded me!

Many thanks peterm and I'm sorry if my clue has turned out to be controversial. Your parsing is spot on:

Although I've never heard the term used in Glasgow I had heard it used in my hometown of Stirling many years ago. That alone would have been too local to justify its use here but if anyone would care to look in Chambers;
ken²: a house, esp a disreputable one.
Hope this helps.
Cheers peterm, "Farty Towels" timeless.
