Is anyone doing this? I have solved about 20 clues but can't seem to fit any of them together in the grid.
Some clues are missing a letter that must be restored before solving.
I'd appreciate some hints on some of the longer clues, for example:

Marrying male having either side fibbing (7)
Interminably point at northern street to claim proudly (8)
Trendy Privy Councillor's striking hospital (7)
Rocky islands where one's flipped? (8)

This might get me going on the grid filling. Thanks

Hi bobbbunny, you should have noticed a trend of where the "missing" letters go.
In the order you've given.
1. Word needing a letter added: either
2., 3. & 4.are all thematic, ie no missing letter in the wordplay.
2. 5 letter word shortened to 4 "point" + 4 letter word for a street up north.
3. Title of a P.C. (2nd word abbreviated) without "h"
4. 2 4 letter islands, the 2nd reversed.

Thanks a lot, ginge. I've now got the four long entries in and have 9 of the 11 themed entries. Should hopefully be ok from now on, but still stuck on the 'Marrying...' clue.
Any further hint please?

Have about half the clues, but don't know how to start populating the grid - thrown by the 2 x 9 cells to be populated. Presumably the 2 x 8 letter clues need to be modified and entered here?

Selection of what I'm pondering:
40. One local river's wavy (5)
17. Missing right rate Ruth's shed (3)
8. Military district outlaw reserve division (3)
39. German marks very practically making a comeback as sum's dodgy without (7) - have UMLAUTS - but can't work out middle section and if a letters missing
35. Taking the tops off the deal pencils, that's pointless (4)
36. Eilidh's stripping wearing about little to begin with (7)

Any hints appreciated

Hi crackabilly, as Imentioned earlier tthere is a trend to where you "add" the missing letters to the non thematic entries. This also applies to the thematic answers on entry !
40. is thematic, the "usual" 2 letter word for one local + a 3 letter river, definition wavy.
17 .word to be amended "rate".
8. Thematic, triple definition.
39.al(l) reversed + ut (as) in sum*, very => every.
35. word to be amended " deal".
36. Thematic, definition Eilidh's stripping.
