Two clues crossover between the cryptic and definitional xword.

Ref the cryptic : Double cross - I get the twin / double bit , but cross / trial? Cross to bear = trial? Or am I missing something obvious?

What are the clues?

The clue, which is for the Cryptic only as the Times 2 has a whole different set of clues and answers, is...
Betray twin on trial (6-5). Double = Twin and Trial = Cross, something to bear/putt up with.

8 dn is neither here nor there in both grids
11 dn is theme in both grids

Cross

Cross seems a little loose as a synonym for trial

Cross = Trial is in Bradford's crossword dictionary, so it's probably cropped up in quite a few crosswords. Chambers gives one definition of 'cross' as 'a burden, something that causes suffering'. One definition of 'trial' is 'suffering' - so I think the clue works out reasonably well.
