The only word that fits is TOTAL

OK, "TOTAL" can be taken to mean "PERFECT" but how does it fit in with the rest of the clue ?

Probably best to ignore that

Tot and finger are synonyms for a measure of alcohol.
"A" could be from A level in education.
L could be the abbreviation for left hand side.
A bit vague though?
