1ac. Enter C for ___ (4) c?u? Answer = coup
Just a thought. Anagram of C and Enter = centre - i.e. C and Enter recycled. Recycling centre = rubbish dump = coup.

I emailed The Herald crossword editor on Monday and just received this reply:

Myops explains: "Recycling centre"....(a coup, and C is the central letter of recycling.

It is the Wee Stinker!
