Me, too. Don't know enough about Apollo to know why the plural = striking lads.

Apollo is defined as 'handsome young man' , as well as the Sun-god meaning. Striking lads are handsome young men.

Thanks again, Malone. I was too fixated on striking either meaning hitting or going on strike (I was trying to find a word beginning AWOL ... !)

Crosswords might well help defer dementia, but might just make me crazy instead!
