Could anybody give me a hint on the meaning of R. I'm stuck!

What is the clue please? Not all of us have the crossword and we like to help if we can.

R has the same meaning in 9 different clues and MIGHT have something to do with valentine's day. Here is one clue.
7dw Stormy north tip of R (5).

I think it might be 'rose' - for Valentines Day, but it's not helping a lot, to be honest.

7 down - 'thorn' - anagram of north and fits with rose

You're further ahead than me, then. I have the top right corner done and am stuck! Much harder than usual, I thought.

I think the preamble is wrong - R, may well be the same word but the meaning is definitely not the same throughout.

Quite apart from the meaning of 'R', I'm finding this utterly impenetrable...
