Not convinced about my answer to 40d, "Bablah pods finally in decline? Not totally. (3)" It has to be thematic and the only answer that fits is a shrub, but it does not seem to be the same family as bablah.

Also cannot parse 7a. "Disperser of ancient language, beginning to go extinct. (5)" There is a misprint and I have a word o---c meaning dispenser but I do not see how the wordplay fits.

40 The thematic answer is actually defined as 'a bablah pod' in Chambers. (The last letter of 'in' + a three-letter word for 'decline' then shortened, ie not quite).

7 A. I'm sure your answer is correct - the ancient language is one letter longer than your dispenser, but the first letter is removed ('beginning to go').

40D is neb-neb. Def in Chambers is 'bablah pods'.
I'm stuck on answers to 6D, 14A and parsing of 28D.

28d - synonym for eater then double the middle letter.

6 D. Thematic, referring to a horse - just the usual crossword shorthand for English and usual abbreviation for like/example, reversed(mounted)

14. The misprint is in the third word.

14a has a misprint for (r)ope. The answer is in Bradfords
