I have finished the puzzle apart from 34 Ac. Cannot work out the migration in the clue OR think of any plausible word. It looks like another "possible" word for a cricketer ! ! Any hints appreciated. Also I do not understand the cluing of 37 Ac (though I am sure I have the right word). And should not 7 Across read : Ate seaT ...perhaps, to make it CHAIR, with the R removed ! Again, any tips / short explanations would be most helpful.

37ac R replaces the first letter of a four letter word in Chambers meaning "dedication of church".
7ac CHAIN is the seal.

Am I correct in assuming that when a letter moves in the across clues real words remain, but when a letter moves in the down answers a real word does not necessarily remain? For 19d I cannot see how a letter can move to leave a real word, unless the modified word is the same as the original answer.

PrimeProspect, the first six words of clue 34 describe the first 4 letters of the answer (think in terms of a knife handle), with a letter migrating within the sixth word. The next two words describe the last 4 letters, the definition being an Aboriginal shield.

My solving of 7 involved using 'apart from the tail' about three times, Taking the tail off SEAL gives SEA which is a tail short of being SEAT, or CHAIR...

Yes, Orson. The across migrations always leave real words. Most of the down migrations don't

Meursault - for 7ac look at the 4th meaning of SEAL in Chambers.

Thanks Unclued - Some time after I'd developed my contrived explanation I realised that there was an easier way...

Think I'm having a 'blind spot' - I have 1A making perfect sense without a migration. and can'y parse 31A or 8D

Can't help with 1ac except to say that there is a migration in the 4th word of the clue. 8dn before the migration is a 4-letter word for a people of the Vietnam/Cambodia area followed by the first 3 letters of a 4-letter word for a "cavy" (guinea-pig). 31ac is an anagram of K (1000) R (Rand) and KISS.
Thanks to Dryden, Demeter and Unclued for putting me back on the right track. I now have a full grid and am looking for the migratory stop-over location.

I just meant the bold to be for "is". Don't know why it spread to the rest of the comment!
