Just a thought - their phone number is posted

0161 669 4786

Why don't we all call them - repeatedly - to politely request that they desist?

Try it then, bet they then pester your phone number, relentlessly

One report a day suffices, Norah then goes into forum cleaning mode, whilst eating breakfast dressed in her "jim jams" ;-)

Ash did try calling from an untraceable phone to see who answered but didn't get anywhere, someone answered but Ash couldn't understand him.

I have no intention of ringing from my home phone, I doubt if they would desist if I asked politely. They would just know I had a live phone.

On a totally different but similar topic, never send a text message STOP when prompted to do so when receiving advertising texts unless you know the text is from a reliable company. The spammers then know it is a live number and sell on your details.

Yes, running a bit late today, but I am still in my Jim jams, dedication to duty!

Try putting a "pinned" (permanent notice) at top of forum, stating that all threads advertising kitchens/bedrooms will be deleted as they are Scams and should be totally ignored. ?

Isn't that an adblocker?

It won't stop spammers making a post will it?

Norah is great at getting rid of all the spam that comes in. I don't think there's a quick or easy solution to stop the junk - more's the pity!

I think it's an adblocker for ipads and iphones? No, it shouldn't make any difference to anyone posting.

A permanent notice would be letting the spammers know that we are aware all their kitchen adverts are scams, so any advert they place thereafter is purely telling everyone "don't touch our kitchens with a barge pole " !

There are a couple of tricks which work on another forum I moderate, but I don't know if they will work here.

Firstly, all new members have to have their first post approved before they can post on the open forum. That stops nearly all the Spam from being visible to forum users, but fails if the first post looks OK and Spam is posted later. Luckily most of the spammers are not that tenacious.

Secondly, (this may not be possible here) I can ban IP addresses of "confirmed" spammers so that they can't re-register with a different name from the same IP address. I usually block them in chunks of 256 addresses (e.g. nnn.nnn.nnn.*) or more if they are from the Eastern Bloc.
