Is 'Ledgier' a word in Chambers later editions? I only have the11th Edition. The supposed meaning would be to have more shelves or ledges.

'Ledgy', having many ledges, is in my 12th edition. I think 'ledgier' would follow on from that in the same way as 'busier' and 'noisier' (which aren't specifically given in Chambers).

In Chambers 12, there is ledgy- having many ledges. As "ledgier" is the comparative, it would not have a separate entry but looks kosher.

From the Spelling Rules at the start of my Chambers...
' Adjectives ending in y preceded by a consonant generally change the 'y' to 'i' in the comparative and superlative:
happy happier happiest'.

You're welcome, Harlequin - it was an interesting little question. I like puzzles/queries/information about words, spelling, usage and so on.

Pleased to see you are still around, Harlequin.
Btw Jazz Girl's last win was at the Curragh 10 furlong in June 2014. Poor old girl ;(
