I have L?E?E?E? which gives an entirely serviceable answer except that it's plural and the clue clearly indicates the singular. I'm pretty sure of the penultimate "e" which comes from a straightforward anagram. Am I missing something or has Dante gone agley?

It does look like the penultimate letter should be an A.

The crossing clue is anagram of "I creep"

I think there must be an error in the clue. It should be plural.
I am sure you are quite correct with 25 D - it is definitely an anagram of "I creep" giving the last letter as an 'E'
