All normal clues solved, but themed words hard to guess as I have only Brewer's 18th edition. Any tips?

if you could assist with my last two 'normal' clues?

denial it's a French town (7) ????N?? (presumably NON?)

21a Champagne town; consists of 6-letter word in Chambers of French origin for "distracted" minus "du" plus old 3-letter word implying denial
