When instead of 'help' you blurt out the solution to the puzzle - which is basically what you did - you have, in fact, 'poisoned' the thread. My choice of words was apt, not inflammatory.

You are, of course, free to post whatever you want. You should not expect, however, to be spared criticism. Clearly no amount of pleading is ever going to stop you from going beyond offering help to blurting out solutions. You are obviously well aware that your behavior offends.

If you can calm down for a moment (it's still Christmas), and go back and read my comment, you'll see that I gave a warning, also typed the keyword backwards. A solver just 2 comments below was able to avoid looking at it.

You attribute all kinds of weird things - that I want some type of revenge against the solver ?

This site doesn't conform to any given rules about help. Some weeks there is very little help given, other weeks pretty well the whole puzzle is given away by various contributors.

Just calm down, Buzzb.

Meursault - I have assumed that you are the same person who set several Listeners in the past - before my time doing the puzzle and too early to be available through the Times Crossword Club, but I have seen very favourable comments about at least one of them. I understand the grievance you have against (some of) the posters on the Answerbank threads, but it seems to me that at times your criticism of the Listener puzzles, setters and editors goes beyond what might be reasonably expected, and might indicate some sort of grievance in that direction as well.
And I'm not sure that Chess has any relevance to this discussion.

Here is your comment in full:

Firstly - please excuse me if my earlier post, which suggested that A,C,D might be on the same rank or file of the playfair square, has misled. At that time I'd not looked at the puzzle for long and certainly hadn't considered all the possibilities.

Dryden, it's certainly not with enmity that I disagree with you ("Without that process of deduction, the puzzle has no point, hence my plea above"). Firstly, I think that the puzzle is fundamentally flawed if it cannot be progressively solved, instead requiring a big bang. Secondly, it goes against my belief to withhold information, if it can be useful to others. Thirdly, and perhaps the clincher, is that there are people on another site crowing that John Green will have a sparse mailbag for this puzzle. If in doubt, I will do what such people least want me to do. So anyone who doesn't want to know the keyword, look away now. In reverse : sex, obgnik & cap

So you give your so-called warning immediately before and in-line with the spoiler.

More to the point, nowhere in any of the preceding posts was there anything that could be remotely interpreted as a request for someone to post the keyphrase. You did so unbidden, apparently motivated by the open disdain you expressed in Thirdly, and perhaps the clincher, is that there are people on another site crowing that John Green will have a sparse mailbag for this puzzle. If in doubt, I will do what such people least want me to do.

Well said buzzb ! One would have hoped that someone capable of solving a Listener Crossword would behave like a grown-up.
