Thank you. The composer isn't Solie after all. How could I have thought that?!

All of them except the one's beginning with K:
K1: Beetle crushed in state (8)
K2: King missing Queen at German monastery (7)
One is purely thematic (composer's name)

We have enjoyed the responses so far and found them useful, espiecally knowing the theme. However, we're now stuck and feel a few key clues would help us along before admitting complete defeat. So please could someone help us with the letters: E, U, G, M and D? Thank you in advance! We think the composer is Donizetti, George Stubbs for G?

Thank you, no the other words as well, we're very stuck on the u as we can't make any of the 'u-boat' type words fit with the clue!
