This was a clue that appeared in the Telegraph (Saturday, Sydney)
23a) and would have appeared in the Brisbane version, what ever that maybe.
All the crossing letters give no other choice

Ha! It's just clicked, after a day.
Cryptic = definition.
Genuine = Serious
Hint at the end = (hin)T
Compiler must = my(self)
