Last one!

Reading down at one point score twice instead in this? (5)

I have F-0-Y so it looks a lot like "FOOTY" but I can't get the wordplay.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance...

I have looked at this lang and hard and can't see any more than Sedge offered you as a partial parse on the other site.

Possibly relevant - is it an across or a down clue?

It is an across clue (23 across to be precise)

something to do with forty being two score? (maybe what was already suggested)?

This is the attempt from Sedge

//You presumably start with FORTY (score twice, 2 x 20), remove the R(eading) and insert an O (but I don't see how the last bit works). //

I have it.

The central O is an insetection with the word DOOR, forming the pattern

D
O
FOOTY
R

So that if you read down at one point you get Forty.

Sneaky!

The site removed the leading spaces so my reply makes no sense...:@
