Malone and ChrisE-Apologies for intrusion, just read this on looking in. Chambers gives line as a thread, string, cord or rope and lace as a string or cord ...... First definition in each case.

To me "lacerate" means "cut" rather than "rip", but I suppose there is some overlap.

Just noticed that Chambers definition of rorqual literally means red whale, so could be either sei or red
