Thanks for the extra definition. I got the Michael Fish reference in the surface.
The 13th ed of Chambers has "peelgarlic see pilgarlick", but pilgarlick isn't in there!

"pilgarlick" is one of the 500 words which were missing from the 13th edition. There is a link to a PDF for them here

Mattrom you beauty! It's been bothering me that Jeremy Paxman's quote in the blurb says "A page a day keeps the doddypolls at bay". Looked it up and it's not there, so I presumed it was a practical joke. Until now. Thanks!
