Good evening,

Finished today's cryptic crossword but would appreciate an explanation please as I am always willing to learn.

A king and prince had the tapestry. (5) A?R?S I believe I have the right answer ARRAS (A tapestry, wall hanging, or curtain, especially one of Flemish origin.) but cannot see where the king and prince come into it?

Thank you for any explanation.

R synonym for king
ras - synonym for prince with "a" at the front

R = king (as in Rex) and Ras = prince. so you get A (in the clue) + R+Ras. A r ras. Arras.

I should have said that Ras is defined in Chambers as an Ethiopian prince.

Thank you Kirky and Malone, I am very grateful to you both. I get it now, as in Rastafarian.

Thank you both.

Colin.
