Thanks mamya. I don't think I would use high in that sense - and a steep cliff isn't necessarily high, of course!

I suppose that high for expensive has an implied noun - "a high price" or "the price is high". However if I was asked for £10 for a cup of coffee, I might say "that's a bit steep!", but I don't think I would say "that's a bit high".

A high-pitched roof is a steep roof.
Anne Bradford's Dictionary gives steep for high.
