O dear I am completely confused by this type of puzzle

I thought that if I solved the longer clues things would
fall into place.
Letter G - Golden Seal & Group dynamics but I can't
see where 10 letters & 13 letters interconnect in the grid.

Am I wrong with my thinking?

right hand side column is 13

10 letter answer goes into 2nd letter

bottom column 13

10 letter answer goes into penultimate letter

sorry meant bottom row is also 13

Also

left hand column is 13

and penultimate letter of it is start of a 10 letter answer

Let's hope that gets me going.

Better off by the look of it starting with top column as it has a shared first letter.

13 letters across 6 letters down so it looks like that must be the S answer.
