Given that there is no thread on this I must be being thicker than normal this week. I have a full grid and know who character B is but cannot for the life of me identify character A despite looking at various quotations containing what is omitted from the seven thematic answers. A nudge/violent shove in the right direction would be appreciated.

Thank you for that Novice. I have now found him in the grid. That has muddied the waters even more because the name I have for character B has only 6 letters and yet all the letters ( 8 ) of character A's name need replacing.

Look across the whole diagonal alwayspuzzled.
