Hi there,

If anyone could parse this for me, I'd be very grateful, as it's driving me mad...

1d. A gem Prince Charles finds monstrous? (9)
Ans. carbuncle

So, how is the answer derived from the clue?

Many thanks.

As well as a wart, it's a sort of gem.

Prince Charles referred to the new National Gallery as "a monstrous carbuncle on Trafalgar Square". (He's not noted for his modern attitude to architecture!)
