Those who can carry off some lines of the classic English Bond? (8,7)

Here I'm referring to english-bond brickwork where every other course (or line} supports(bears) the stretchers (bricks oriented along the line of the wall)

The surface hints at Ian Fleming's spy - who has a new film out in case you haven't heard...
